Nuweiba is a coastal town in the eastern part of Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, located on the coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. Historically, the area was inhabited by two different Bedouin tribes. The few hotels and beach hut camps attracts tourist wanting to avoid the urban hustle and bustle of Sharm el Sheik or Hurgada. I spent there a fantastic half a year as a dive guide trainee at Scuba College owned by Petra and Mike from Germany. Under the watchful eye of Mike I passed the Dive Leader and Advanced Trimix (technical deep diving) certifications.
Unfortunately, they had to shut down the dive center operations in summer 2014 due to a lack of guests. Overcautious European authorities issued travel warnings for Sinai region, which resulted in cancellation of most tourist flights to Sharm el Sheik. Currently, sun seekers and diving enthusiasts seem to flock in the southern tourist magnets such as Hurgada, Safaga and Marsa Alam.
